Hanover Street

During the Second World War in London, Lieutenant David Halloran (Harrison Ford), an American B-25 bomber pilot with the Eighth Air Force based in the United Kingdom, and Margaret Sellinger (Lesley-Anne Down), a British nurse, have a chance encounter on Hanover Street during the Blitz. The following day, Halloran's squadron is sent to bomb Rouen, and their plane's starboard engine is hit, though the fire is extinguished. Cimino (Richard Masur), the bombardier, pleads with Halloran to let him drop the bombs early and turn back, but Halloran, unconcerned about the danger, orders him to wait until they reach the target, prompting Cimino's angry exclamation that he hates Halloran.

Two weeks later, Halloran and Sellinger meet again in a secret assignation on Hanover Street. Although Sellinger is married, she and Halloran rapidly fall in love, and she tries to resist the attraction, but is drawn to the charismatic American. In contrast, her husband, Paul Sellinger (Christopher Plummer), is described as suave, pleasant, but fairly dull. A former teacher, he is now a trusted member of British intelligence.
